BGW GTA & GTB page 2
Two Powerful Amplifiers Share a Common Heritage

Conservative Touring Amps
The BGW GTA is our most powerful amplifier. With its dual monaural design, each channel is capable of driving a full kilowatt of continuous power into 2 ohm loads. Unlike many light weight transient amplifiers, the GTA can effortlessly drive several bass bins in parallel. To enable the GTA to deliver so much continuous power, it is supplied with a four conductor, 10-gauge, molded power cord rated at 30 amps. When you compare the power supplies and cords of the GTA with most other amplifiers on the market, you develop an understanding if why it sounds so much better than competitive amps rated at much higher output.

We realize, however, that a 78 pound amplifier like the GTA may be more amplifier than required for many applications. So we offer the same basic product with a single power supply and a conventional power cord. The GTB delivers 850 watts per channel into 2 ohms - that's 100 to 200 watts greater than competitive amps.

These amps can handle high current loads, so you can drive more speakers in parallel (simplifying hookups), and save money (since fewer anps are needed in the overall sound system).

Built For The Road
BGW Grand Touring Amplifiers are built on a welded steel chassis. This single-piece construction provides the rigidity and strength needed for the grueling touring sound industry. Massive aluminum heat sinks and a powerful fan provide the most reliable cooling system in the industry. The 6 pounds of aluminum heat sinks can soak up thermal transients generated by loud musical passages without raising the temperature of the transistors. Amplifiers built with light weight heat exchangers may work effectively when new and clean, but once dust accumulates between the narrow spaced fins, problems become apparent. BGW amps can tolerate a lot more abuse and don't need constant cleaning in dirty environments.

Our modular design means you can swap out a complete channel assembly in the field in a matter of minutes. And if service is ever required, you won't have to ship the amp back to the factory for repair, as most problems are resolved by a simple module swap.

When you examine the inside of a BGW touring amp, you will notice the quality of double-sided, plated-through-hole, glass epoxy circuit boards, quality components throughout, and meticulous craftsmanship. A hand-made wire harness assembly connects the removable heat sink modules to the power supply and input module. The wire harness eliminates fragile board-to-board interconects used in inexpensively made amplifiers. After years of thrashing on the road, your BGW Grand Touring Amplifier's internal wiring will be as good as new.

For all their power, the GTA and GTB are highly refined professional amplifiers, with performance specifications that are beyond compare.

Flexible Connections
Each channel input is equipped with parallel-wired male and female XLRs and a pair of T/R/S phone jacks so that any standard cable may be used, and it is easy to "daisy-chain" multiple amps. The input circuitry is actively balanced, featuring high common mode rejection (at least 70dB from 20Hz to 20kHz - not just midband). A transformer-isolated version is available (specify option 06). Input transformers are the correct solution when high common mode voltages are present. Output connections are made via gold-plated 5-way binding posts, spaced to permit bridged mono connection via one dual-banana plug.

Crossover to BGW
Optional crossover networks enables the GTA or GTB to be used as the bottom half of a biamped system, or as the bottom and mid sections of a triamped system, without need for a seperate, costly crossover unit. Internally mounted crossovers can't get damaged; they give you the flexibility of a stereo power amp with a built-in stereo crossover. You can patch the crossover inputs and outputs as you require them. Or you can wire the crossover outputs directly to the amp's inputs. Choose from sixteen standard crossover frequencies simply by changing the DIP switch and jumper settings. Our broad range of frequency options starts at 100Hz and goes all the way up to 8,000Hz. The BGW crossover cards protect speakers from accidental damage due to inadvertent knob twisting, while at the same time enabling accurate selection of the crossover frequency.

Sensible Electronic Design
Each channel of the GTA is independant of the other, except for the single power cord. Each of its two power supplies, with their front-panel mounted magnetic circuit breakers, is capable of delivering more than 1200 watts of DC power. Just one GTA delivers enough to drive eight 18" woofers in ported cabinets to their excursion-limited power handling capacity. If one channel of the GTA should ever fail, the second would continue to operate. An entire channel assembly can be replaced in the field in minutes - with nothing more than a phillips head screwdriver.

Features Born of Professional Experience
A subsonic (high pass) filter is included, and may be activated with a rear panel switch. LEDs indicate true clipping, and a 3-second turn on delay (with instant off) protects speakers. Input and output mode switches are accessible on the rear panel. Rack mount ears and handles are an integral part of the design.

Built Like No Others
Since 1971, BGW has set the world standard for engineering excellence in professional audio power amplifiers. We were the first to apply aerospace and computer technology to build reliable and serviceable power amps. We pioneered the concepts of DC speaker protection, modular construction using a welded steel chassis, high-reliability interconnects, LED VU meters on power amps, and magnetic circuit breakers for mains protection. In 1974, when the Federal Trade Commission established FTC amplifier measurements and specification standards, BGW was the only professional engineering company whose products could withstand that grueling preconditioning without thermal cycling.

Long Term Investment -
Lowest Cost of Ownership

You can count on your BGW power amp for years and years of reliable operation. We design them to be the world's most reliable. Although you may pay a little more initially, our amps will outlast competitive products. You will keep your BGW amps far longer than cheaply made imitations. And if you decide to sell, your BGW power amp will command a high price - resulting in the lowest cost of ownership.
